The style of psychotherapy I utilize is called constructive life counseling or Constructive Psychotherapy. Goals of Constructive Psychotherapy are to help you to better understand and appreciate yourself and others, to help you develop skills in solving problems and coping with challenges in your life, and to encourage your efforts to develop in directions that you find fulfilling and meaningful. It is “constructive” because it emphasizes your strengths and abilities. Challenges in your life repeatedly ask you to exercise and refine your abilities. These challenges emphasize the importance of your choices and actions, particularly in those periods of your life when you may see only limited or distressing options. I will do my best to understand and honor your distress. Our work together will be collaborative and designed to empower you toward your life’s goals.

In many cases, with a client’s agreement, I provide Animal Assisted Therapy. This modality of therapy can be particularly helpful and in motivating children and adolescents but also works well with adults.

Psychotherapy services are provided with attention to:

  • Treating you with respect and dignity
  • A relationship that is professional and confidential
  • Providing effective collaborative treatment
  • Clarifying information
  • Cultural, racial, sexual, religious, gender, and other issues affecting you
